Savannah, Georgia- Travel Guide

We just got back from the best baby moon! We road tripped 4 hours to Savannah, Georgia! We wanted to go somewhere that we could bring our pup and when looking up road trip destinations near us, Savannah was on the top of the “dog friendly” list!

A few cool Savannah facts… It was one of the first ever masterplanned cities in the US! This means that it is fully laid out in a grid which makes it super easy to navigate. On one side of the city is the river, and on the other side is Forsyth Park! It’s about a 30 minute walk from the park to the river. I’ll put a map below so you can see what I mean!

You can also see all the squares/parks on this map! Apparently when Savannah was founded, it had 24 squares and there are still 22 left! It makes walking through the city so fun because there is a beautiful park every few blocks and they each have such different stories behind them! It’s also one of the reasons that the city is SO dog friendly. I saw more dogs in Savannah than any other city we’ve been to!!

Restaurants:

  • Cha-Bella: Dog friendly patio with heaters!! We had the bacon and whiskey charcuterie board which was awesome. Robert loved the whiskey flight and I loved all the bacon treats.

  • The Olde Pink House: This is one of the oldest buildings in Savannah and has SO much history. You can book a table here in advance via open table, and they have patio seating! We unfortunately didn’t make a reservation far enough in advance so we got there early (5-ish) and got on the wait list. We walked around the river so didn’t mind the 1.5 hour wait. You have to start with the southern sushi (shrimp and grits, in a sushi type roll- unreal). I did the BLT salad for dinner with shrimp (the salad has won awards) and Robert got the flounder (he won- it was the star of the night).

  • Moon River Brewing: Great outdoor patio space for a late afternoon beer. We also split the nachos which were 10/10.

  • The Collins Quarter: There are 2 locations! One closer to historic Savannah and the river, and the other is in Forsyth Park! We loved brunch here. It looked like they had great brunch cocktails as well.

Other Restaurants that were recommended but we didn’t hit:

  • Vics on the River

  • Bella Napoli

  • Lulu’s Chocolate Bar

  • Leopold’s Ice Cream

  • The Peregrin rooftop bar

  • The Portal Bar- arcade games

  • Pirate House

  • Myrtle and Rose

  • Electric Moon

  • Bao Bab Lounge

Activities:

  • GHOST TOUR! We did a ghost tour with Ghost City Tours. They’re a walking tour company (dog friendly!). There were quite a few trolley ghost tours through the city but we love to be outside so we wanted a walking tour! This company has different levels of “scariness” when it comes to their tours. We did an intermediate level. It wasn’t scary at all, only had a few “ghost” stories but more spooky history tales. Our guide, Nicole, was awesome.

  • Parks! We stayed next to Forsyth Park so had access to the biggest park in the city right at our finger tips. There are so many parks sprinkled through the city.

  • Shopping on Broughton St

  • Walk along the river!

  • If you want to dip your feet in the sand, Tybee Island is only 25 minutes away from Savannah and had some of the most beautiful white sand beaches. We didn’t stay here too long, just wanted to see the ocean. I wasn’t overly impressed with the restaurant/bar scene in Tybee.

Activities we didn’t do but heard were great:

  • Catholic Mass at St. John the Baptist Cathedral

  • Pub crawls

  • Food tours

  • Riverboat
